About

For those who love the outdoors, the Foothills is a paradise. Between the Westwind Barn and Byrne Preserve, a Pathways trail system that crisscrosses through the town, and the stunning vistas of the San Francisco Bay, this neighborhood is the perfect place to appreciate nature. The area’s rich history prevails in its rich, rustic details, despite being in the midst of a valley that has seen incredible growth and a loss of open space.

Outdoor recreation like biking and horseback riding is very common in the Foothills and throughout most of the Peninsula. Cyclists are regularly seen in their monumental effort of climbing some of the narrow and steep, main roads in the community, like Page Mill, Moody, and Altamont.

It’s easy to get a sense of the small-town America feel with sprawling mansions alongside single-story Ranch houses. In the Foothills, one property will have horse stables, while its neighboring property will be a gated estate, using its hilly property to grow vineyards. Needless to say, these homes offer privacy and seclusion, while being custom-built and varied in design, with Colonial-style homes side-by-side with Mediterranean architecture. There’s hardly a lack of new construction throughout the Foothills.

Bordering Palo Alto Hills is Foothills Park, with 1,400 acres of open space, and home to breathtaking Boronda Lake. On the south of Foothills Park, off of Moody Road, is an organic farm dubbed Hidden Villa, which is located on 1,600 acres of open space in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. South of Foothills Park, off of Moody Road, you will find Hidden Villa, an organic farm located on 1,600 acres of open space. This farm reaches out to its community by offering programs such as summer camps for children, and programs educating the community on the basics of farm life. A Catholic monastery is also tucked away in the Foothills on Natoma Road.

Yet another asset of the Foothills neighborhood is Foothill College. A two-year community college offering many associate degree programs, Foothill College is part of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. Additionally, Foothill College’s architecture and design have received many accolades from the architecture community.

Most of the Foothills neighborhood falls into the prestigious Palo Alto Unified School District.
