Showcasing charm, and close proximity to both Palo Alto and Mountain View, North Los Altos, incorporating Old Los Altos, is a quiet enclave of Ranch homes. Situated on the flattest part of the city, most of the properties in North Los Altos are single-story, 2,000 square feet homes on quarter-acre lots, while retirement communities can be found along Los Altos Avenue.

The focal point of this neighborhood has to be the downtown area, affectionately dubbed The Village. Along Main Street reside boutiques, salons, cafés, and mom-and-pop stores. In contrast with Palo Alto, downtown Los Altos basks in a low-key, leisurely atmosphere, making it a great place for a relaxing stroll, with some shopping along the way. Courtesy of Google Co-Founder and Los Altos Hills resident, Sergey Brin, the downtown area is in the process of revitalization, with prospects of new businesses and recreation sprouting up.

Bordering the city of Mountain View is another shopping district in North Los Altos called The Village Court Shopping Center. This area offers unique restaurants, a salon, a postal store, Kidizens (a Lego workshop), office space, and, a favorite among children and adults alike, the Sweet Shop, located along Los Altos Avenue.

Crossing over Foothill Expressway leads straight into Old Los Altos, a part of North Los Altos. This prestigious neighborhood is a blend of stunning estates, some of which are nearly 100 years old. Most homes in this part of the neighborhood reside on lot sizes between 5,000 square feet to 7,000 square feet, and can easily access highly desired Shoup Park. A 3.7 acre wooded paradise, Shoup Park was named after the father of Los Altos, Paul Shoup. Adobe Creek, which separates Los Altos from Los Altos Hills, runs along the park and when dry, makes a wonderful place for children to play and explore.  During hot summer days, the large redwood trees provide plenty of shade for visitors.
