The geographical epicenter of Redwood City is formed by a neighborhood known appropriately as Central Redwood City. Located south of Jefferson Avenue, west of El Camino Real, north of Woodside Road, and east of Hudson Street, this neighborhood is within conveniently close proximity to local amenities. For commuters, this neighborhood is within walking distance of Caltrain, and it is also within a 10-minute drive of both Highway 101 and Interstate 280. Downtown Redwood City borders Central Redwood City on the east, with popular Whole Foods Market and the shopping center at Sequoia Station also within walking distance.
Comprised mostly of single-family, mid-century residences, Central Redwood City also offers some multi-family residences and apartment buildings along Jefferson Avenue and on the eastern side near El Camino Real and Roosevelt Avenue. Single-family residences can range between 800 square feet to 3,000 square feet and may offer up to five bedrooms. Lot sizes vary here, with most averaging between 5,000 square feet and 6,000 square feet.
Depending on the location of a home within Central Redwood City, assigned schools may be Hawes Elementary or John Gill Elementary. Both of these institutions feed into John F. Kennedy Middle School, which in turn feeds into either Sequoia High School or Woodside High School. Hawes Elementary has a student-teacher ratio of about 23:1, while John Gill Elementary has a total enrollment of over 450 students, and a student-teacher ratio of about 20:1. John F. Kennedy Middle School boasts an overall enrollment of over 800 students, and a student-teacher ratio of about 20:1. Sequoia High School has an enrollment of over 1,800 students, and a student-teacher ratio of about 19:1. Woodside High School has overall enrollment of over 1,800 students, and the student-teacher ratio of about 19:1.
