About

Portola Valley Ranch was named one of the most beautiful places in San Mateo County. Deservedly so, the beauty of Portola Valley Ranch can be seen within its 453 acres of rolling hills, virgin oak woodlands, meadows, streams, and ponds. The abundance of wildlife makes it commonplace to spot deer, bobcats, raccoons, and a variety of birds. To protect the pristine and natural conditions of Portola Valley Ranch, only a quarter of the land is used for single-family detached homes.

This neighborhood consists of 205 single-family homes that range from two to five bedrooms. With beautiful wood exteriors and calming earth tones, the homes harmoniously blend into the lush, natural surroundings. Generally, the homes of Portola Valley Ranch come in 14 different models, many with high ceilings, expansive glass walls, and multiple decks with views of Windy Hill Preserve, although homes here lack enclosed garages. Within Portola Valley Ranch lies the community center, which can hold over 100 guests and comes equipped with two swimming pools, three tennis courts, a wine-producing vineyard, vegetable gardens, and dedicated hiking trails. In addition, the center holds monthly socials for residents. Community activities including hiking, book clubs, and family entertainment are also available in the neighborhood.

The Portola Valley Ranch homeowner’s association oversees development and implementation of building restrictions to maintain the neighborhood’s natural charms. Some constraints placed on the residents include: not allowing lawns, private pools, or fenced-in gardens; houses must be painted in earth tones to blend with the environment’s natural backdrop; and water is conserved by using only native plants for landscaping.

Portola Valley Ranch’s location is ideal as it allows a peaceful escape from city bustle, yet provides convenient access to surrounding cities. Residents enjoy being only 10 minutes from Stanford University in Palo Alto, 30 minutes south of San Francisco, and 30 minutes north of San Jose. Shopping is also available at nearby Nathhorst Triangle, Village Square, and Ladera Country Shopper.
