About

Lighthouse Cove is an expansive neighborhood that is home to Shannon Park, Sandpiper Elementary School, and different communities of condominiums, apartments, and single-family residences.

During the late 1980s, single-family residences in Lighthouse Cove began to spring up, and steadily developed throughout the 1990s. Depending on the community within this neighborhood, single-family residences either boast Mediterranean or Cape Cod styles.. Homes offer three to five bedrooms, two to three full bathrooms, and sizes of 1,500 square feet to over 3,200 square feet. Many communities enjoy private community pools, man-made waterways, playgrounds, and close proximity to local trails.

The 150-unit condominium community of Ventana del Mar was developed in the late 1990s, and offers one to three bedrooms, one to three bathrooms, and sizes from 900 square feet to over 1,700 square feet. This complex furnishes two community pools, a spa, a recreation room, and a gym. In addition, several units are waterfront, fringing the Redwood Shores Lagoon.

Developed in the late 1980s, the Lakeshore community is a gated, Mediterranean-inspired enclave of 152 townhouse-like condominiums. Units here offer two to four bedrooms, two to three bathrooms, and sizes from 1,400 square feet to 2,400 square feet.  Many Lakeshore units are waterfront, and residents within the community have access to man-made waterways, a pool, a spa, a sauna, and a clubhouse.

Another townhouse-style condominium community, the Manors, was developed in 1989 with 49 Cape Cod-style units. Units may feature up to three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and may range in size from 1,300 square feet to 1,800 square feet. The community also presents a pool, a spa, and a central man-made waterway with fountains.

Bearing the same name as the neighborhood, the Lighthouse Cove community was developed in the 1980s and is a 124-unit, Cape Cod-style condominium community. Units here feature one to three bedrooms (some with lofts) and one to two full bathrooms, and sizes range from approximately 800 square feet to 1,400 square feet. Besides a spa and a swimming pool, this community also enjoys a large, central waterway with fountains. Several units are located waterfront along the man-made waterway, and several other units are located waterfront adjoining the Redwood Shores Lagoon.

Redwood Shores residents have access to excellent elementary schools, including Redwood Shores Elementary and Sandpiper Elementary. Redwood Shores Elementary enrolls students in grades K-5, and has an enrollment of over 400 students, with a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1. Sandpiper Elementary also enrolls students in grades K-5, has an enrollment of 600 students, and features a student-teacher ratio of approximately 24:1. These two schools belong in the Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District, which has a total of six elementary schools. Unlike most other school districts, this school district bases enrollment on walking distance from the student’s house to the nearest school versus geographical attendance boundaries. Within this system, students are normally assigned to either the first or the second closest school to their home; however, based on school capacity, students may be assigned to any one of the six schools.

Both Redwood Shores Elementary and Sandpiper Elementary feed into Ralston Intermediate, which has nearly 900 students, and a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1. After their time at Ralston Intermediate, students then attend Carlmont High School, which has over 2,100 students, and a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1.
