About

The neighborhood of Mariner Park is set within the borders of Shoreline Drive, Redwood Shores Parkway, Barkentine Lane, and the Steinberger Slough. Over 100 single-family residences shape this area, almost all of which are traditional single-story or two-story homes built in the 1970s. Homes can have as many as five bedrooms and three baths, and many have been extensively renovated to include additional living space. House sizes range from approximately 1,050 square feet to over 2,800 square feet, and lot sizes fluctuate from about 6,000 square feet to over 9,000 square feet.

Also located within Mariner Park is Hastings of Redwood Shores, a 140-unit condominium community developed in the mid-1990s. Here, units can feature up to three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and they range from about 750 square feet to over 1,300 square feet in size. Residents of this area have access to terrific amenities like a community pool, a spa, and a tennis court.

Residents in Mariner Park can easily access the local park that shares the neighborhood’s moniker. This park presents a broad, open lawn, and a jogging trail that runs along Steinberger Slough. Residents of Mariner Park can easily stroll to Marketplace Shopping Center, the Electronic Arts headquarters, and various other commercial buildings.

Redwood Shores residents have access to excellent elementary schools, including Redwood Shores Elementary and Sandpiper Elementary. Redwood Shores Elementary enrolls students in grades K-5, and has an enrollment of over 400 students, with a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1. Sandpiper Elementary also enrolls students in grades K-5, has an enrollment of 600 students, and features a student-teacher ratio of approximately 24:1. These two schools belong in the Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District, which has a total of six elementary schools. Unlike most other school districts, this school district bases enrollment on walking distance from the student’s house to the nearest school versus geographical attendance boundaries. Within this system, students are normally assigned to either the first or the second closest school to their home; however, based on school capacity, students may be assigned to any one of the six schools.

Both Redwood Shores Elementary and Sandpiper Elementary feed into Ralston Intermediate, which has nearly 900 students, and a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1. After their time at Ralston Intermediate, students then attend Carlmont High School, which has over 2,100 students, and a student-teacher ratio of approximately 23:1.
